Santa Fe Chapter

Seasonal Merriment
Good food, delectable desserts, and shared laughter were the highlights of our Santa Fe Chapter holiday gathering. After enjoying the feast and catching up, we had some fun with a holiday gift swap. After numbers were randomly chosen, the first person opened her gift and the following people selected their gifts and could ‘swap’ it for any previous gifts. Finally, the first person was able to survey all the other gifts and choose her favorite.

Recently at the stunning KiMo Theatre in Albuquerque, nine women entrepreneurs, innovators, artists, and activists gave their signature dynamic talk on a wide range of subjects. Each one was designed to inspire, educate and empower New Mexican women. And they did! From entering the theater to leaving, the high, positive energy of the volunteers, speakers and audience was palpable. Our carpool ride home was non-stop, enthusiastic idea sharing!Read more...

Flight #18
We gathered in Sue Benedict's sunny kitchen and piled in two cars for the ride to Albuquerque, talking the whole way- laughing, telling stories, getting to know each other.

The tickets we purchased said "Flight #18" and that's what it was! We lifted off the ground and went 2 miles straight up, up, up, over the canyon below us, above the 3 story high rocks, over the first tower, and across the great gaping open space. We were holding on for dear life, thrilled and terrified both.

At the top it was windy and brisk. The views were liberating, expansive, and vast.
What an adventure! What a good time getting to know some amazing women! What a blessing to be part of TTN. Read more...

Seeing the dawn patrol balloons fill and glow and rise into the crisp morning sky was magical and surreal, like watching an animated movie with billion dollar special effects, only this was real life! We watched them with wonder as they flew through the dark, and filled with fire every few seconds. The sight and the feeling was outdone only by the mass ascension when row after row of these air-filled works of art floated above us, and beyond us, and all around. Pictures cannot do it justice, though apparently, the Albuquerque Balloon festival is the most photographed event on earth.Read more...

Melodrama Madness!
TTN members and guests pose with "Boozeanna Martinis" (actress Libby King) after thoroughly enjoying the 2017 Fiesta Melodrama at the Santa Fe Playhouse. Subtitled "A Down Home Dance Hall Drama or Sister, Can You Spare A Sanguich or A Very Kofveve Council D onspiracy," the annual production has since 1919 lampooned local news and politics. In addition to Boozeanna (who was presented with a huge VETO stamp), thinly disguised 2017 characters included Linda Villa-Malland Savannah ScandelaraRead more...

Three TTN members participated in this year's Habitat for Humanity Women Build Week which is always held in May.  Sue Benedict, Lynn Frimond and I met at 8:30 at the Oshara build site on Willow Back Road. There was a female crew leader, young volunteers from Americorp, staffers from Tom Udall's office and other women who had always wanted to help with construction, about fifteen of us. We were given our work belts and T-shirts and then we toured a house that was almost completed. The families who buy the houses receive no-interest loans and they have to volunteer time on the construction.Read more...
