TTN President's Message
August 2, 2020The resilience and creativity of our members during the pandemic continues to inspire me. In this time of virtual connections, our leadership has pivoted quickly to provide stellar programs and supportive connections online. It has been remarkable to see how many programs are now being shared across chapters, strengthening our bonds and truly building a national community. Many women have remarked that they feel more connected to TTN than ever before. New relationships between members from all across the country now have the chance to grow.
We’re engaging in important conversations about how we can have a greater impact and best serve our members during these increasingly difficult times. Recent marches supporting greater social justice and racial equity have caused us to reflect on our role in making a difference, both within our organization and the broader community. The consensus among chapter and national leadership is that we need to become more educated before we can formalize any action plans going forward. To that end, former Board President and former Long Island Chapter Chair, Ellen Bartoldus, has volunteered to help us gather resources to support our educational goals. We hope to offer a national webinar for our members on the topic of racism later this year. In addition, many chapters are offering programs and discussion groups to further understand these issues.
TTN’s Values Statement provides strong support for how we, as “an army of women”, can make a difference in the world:
We endeavor to create an atmosphere of friendship, respect and care for each other regardless of age, disability, race, ethnicity, cultural background or preferences, political affiliation, religion or belief, sexual orientation, or financial situation.

My next letter will include information on the longer term Strategic Plan for TTN and our goals for the next 2-3 years. We have already formed several work-groups to begin analyzing our needs and recommending solutions.
This year is still our 20th Anniversary year and we’re planning some exciting celebrations for October 14 and 15th. Stay tuned for details on events you won’t want to miss.
I look forward to seeing you as we come together virtually in our shared pursuit of connection, discovery and impact. In the meantime, stay safe, be well, be kind and be sure to take time to take care of yourself.
On behalf of the TTN Board of Directors,
Carol D. Oswald
