Looking Forward in 2018
January 12, 2018
Having now completed my first term as President of the Board of Directors, I am reflecting back on the past two years that encompassed so much change in our world.
As a country, we saw the wave of women speaking out through marches throughout the country. We heard the voices of those who came out to say “Me Too”, and now many more women are running for election across the spectrum of local and national political offices.
What a time to be a woman who is part of an organization that “Embraces Change!”
Over the past two years, TTN has grown its membership by almost 8%, and we added another new Chapter in Billings, Montana. We reached more women though our peer groups and Women in Transition Workshop. And we piloted a new workshop “On Resilience” which will be introduced later this year.
We adopted video conferencing technology for our meetings, and used it to provide training to our Chapter Leaders on how to work with and attract volunteers. We also engaged some of our National members in virtual peer groups, and have plans to deliver an online version of our WIT Workshop in the spring.
As we approach our 20th year serving women in transition, we have undertaken a project to ensure that we continue to be relevant to women 50 and forward. We’ve looked at how we can be a voice on issues that affect us, acknowledging the diversity of our members while staying within the legal boundaries of our 501(c)(3) status.
We are also looking at how to reach even more women by strengthening our organizational structure and meeting the changing needs of our chapters and our members. We’ll be working with our Chapter Leaders to develop strategies and plans that provide needed support and encourage individual creativity in meeting the needs of our members.
I want to thank the current and former members of the Board who have given their time and talents to support this organization.
Barbara Beizer, Jean Palmer and Barbara Schreibman, who completed board terms in December, contributed in many ways through program development and marketing leadership. They have had a positive impact on our visibility and members outreach The current members will continue to provide leadership in governance, finance, membership experience support and our plans for the future.
