Yoga for Wellness in Older Adults / Yoga for Fall Prevention

Elizabeth Hansen is offering TTN members a presentation on Yoga for Wellness in Older Adults, followed by a demo class of Yoga for Fall Prevention

The session will explain why Yoga is so beneficial to older adults, and for many serious medical conditions. The demo class will be followed by a question-and-answer period. 

Each session is limited to 10 participants, and will be repeated on 3 dates.

Elizabeth’s presentation will briefly review how the yoga industry broadened from a youth-oriented body-building practice of the 1990’s, to include today’s focus on the general wellbeing of older adults, as well the treatment of many serious diseases. 

She will explain how the components of yoga, breathing exercises, meditation and physical poses, combine to provide physical changes that provide strength, flexibility and well-being to older adults and also contribute to the treatment of conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes 2, arthritis, and many others. 

The demonstration class on Fall Prevention will focus on poses that develop the strength, flexibility and balance needed to protect us as we maneuver icy New York streets this winter.

A question-and-answer period closes the program.

Participants should have a chair available and be familiar with Zoom

Yoga for Wellness in Older Adults will be offered three times.
Each session will have the same content; please register for only one date.

About the Teacher 

Elizabeth de G. R. Hansen, Ph.D., RYT 500, C-IAYT

Elizabeth Hansen, a TTN member since 2003 and a certified yoga therapist, has been teaching yoga to older adults in New York City for over 15 years. 

She currently teaches several classes on Zoom: Yoga by Zoom with Elizabeth Hansen (an introductory chair yoga class), Yoga for Relief from Arthritis (a chair yoga class) and Yoga to Strengthen and Maintain, a class which requires the ability to get down and up from the ground. She is also a member of the team that teaches Yoga for Arthritis and Chronic Pain at the Integral Yoga Institute of New York.

Registrations are not transferrable without authorization by the event organizer.
