Want to see Central Park like you never have before?

Join us for a zoom-wander down the paths of Central Park, circa 1858 and beyond...

Central Park, a scenic landmark known worldwide and beloved by New Yorkers, was the result of a design competition won in 1858 by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux over 32 other designs.

What was in the original, competition-winning entry? And how closely does today's park resemble the ideas in the winning "Plan Number 33"?

Cynthia Brenwall will share the incredible visual story of the creation of Central Park, based on her book, The Central Park: Original Designs for New York's Greatest Treasure, and then will show us where to view some of the original designs in today’s park.

You'll be amazed at the history Cynthia unearthed! We'll see the original winning competition entry with its meticulously detailed plans, maps, elevations, hand-colored lithographs, photographs, and mechanical drawings of a wide range of elements and features-many built, and others never realized.

Cynthia S. Brenwall is an art historian and conservator.  She is currently a conservator at the City of New York Municipal Archives, whose collection of magnificent design resources about Central Park was the inspiration for her book. She is a graduate of Pratt Institute and the University of Wisconsin.

This Zoom webinar will feature a presenter with a PowerPoint. The
audience will NOT be seen or heard. Questions and comments can be submitted by typing them into a form on the screen, or asked directly following the presentation.
