Philadelphia Chapter Event: Successfully Transforming Women’s Lives After Incarceration: A Conversation with Reverend Dr. Michelle Simmons

Monday, April 5, 2021
3:00PM to 4:30PM EST
Location: Online via Zoom. Link will be sent 72 hours prior to event.
Contact: Julie Currie

Be Inspired by the life-story and work of Rev. Dr. Michelle Simmons, a formerly incarcerated woman now helping hundreds of women navigate the challenges of re-entry into their communities after prison through her nonprofit Why Not Prosper. Gain a deeper understanding of the many obstacles and challenges these women face, and the successful reentry programs created to help them become economically self-sufficient and transform their lives.

Moderated by TTN’s own Joanne Bowes, Reverend Michelle will share her powerful personal journey and what propelled her to create Why Not Prosper.  You will also hear from one of Rev Michelle’s volunteer team members who completed the rigorous re-entry program required and is now giving back to the community.

Rev. Michelle will discuss the barriers these women face both during and after incarceration, from re-uniting with their children, to finding safe and secure housing (temporary and permanent), to employment and increasing education and job skills. By providing support and resources, the goal is to empower these women to become economically self-sufficient and productive members of their communities.

Learn how this unique Philadelphia nonprofit has positively impacted the women graduates and local community, and influenced related legal and social policies. Rev. Michelle will also share ideas on how we can take action to help create more successful re-entry stories.

This event is sponsored by TTN Philadelphia and our philanthropic arm, the Giving Circle.
