Samuels and sons was started by a young fish monger pushing products through the streets of Philadelphia in the 1920s and later became Ippolito's, a corner seafood retailer. After Giuseppe Ippolito retired in 1974 and moved back to Sicily, Sam D'Angelo, who was managing Ippolito's, started a successful wholesale business. Today over 100 trucks make deliveries to a 300-mile radius, six days a week.
Special notes about the tour: The sections of the facility where the fish are housed is kept at 35 degrees. You will be provided with a heavy coat, apron, charming cotton hair net, rubber gloves and shoe coverings. There are areas with occasional water puddles and, since this is a warehouse, heavy equipment may be in use. Dress warmly, wear long pants and flat shoes (no heels). And come hungry! The in-house chef and his assistant will be serving up a bountiful seafood meal in the beautiful (and warm) kitchen.
Cancellations must be made by December 30, 2019 and no refunds will be given after this date.
