TTN AT THE MOVIES IN June!!!(Posted June 19, 2019)
Hosted by Gwynne McConkey, the group enjoyed a lively discussion with diverse opinions about each movie.
Despite high praise from the critics, Amazin’ Grace was not a fan favorite – music was “great” but “could have listened to the CD” – “she never spoke” – “no story or character development” 1 2
White Crow – the story of Rudolf Nureyev’s early career and defection – “dancing wonderful,” interesting story of “a star and a narcissist,” most agreed it was frustratingly hard to follow the chronology and the story.
6 1 1
Rocketman – the story of the early life and career of Elton John – music terrific, Taron Egerton did all the singing and sounded exactly like Elton, great costumes and imagery as he sheds pieces of the opening costume over the course of the film (assisted with the chronology (unlike White Crow), appreciated how relationship with Bernie Taupin was depicted. Very emotional film brought many members to tears but seen as a true story of redemption. Compare to Bohemian Rhapsody –( by a slight margin most preferred Freddie Mercury story !)
