TTN at the Movies in April!(Posted April 17, 2019)
Many of our April films had unexpectedly short runs - so, many of us were unable to see them. One lesson learned, see films early lest they be gone when you are ready to view them! Discussion was interesting and enjoyable nonetheless.
Juanita – Netflix– the story of a woman of color who leaves her job and adult (but dependent) children to seek a life for herself – the story of the friends she made and the love and life she found – mixed reviews – “unrealistic”, “ a story of courage,” “ too predictable” 2 4 2
Aftermath - set in Germany after the war – a British officer (Jason Clarke), his wife (Keira Knightley) and a German architect (Alex Skarsgard) and their intertwined relationship – focusing on the wife and the architect who are grieving their losses during the war . “Scenes and photography were amazing,” “ Great acting”
Apollo 11 – a documentary on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of our landing on the moon.” Fabulous”, “great look back to 1969,” “ good focus on safety issues.”” Should be a must see for students !” 2 -
We added a discussion of Gloria Bell, Gloria (Julianne Moore) a free-spirited divorcée who spends her days at a straight-laced office job and her nights on the dance floor. After meeting Arnold (John Turturro), she finds a new romance complicated by their personalities, past relationships and family. Film deals with her reactions to these elements. 1 - 1 2
